PB&J

So today I found myself wondering what exactly a grilled PB&J might taste like.
Yes, Janene, I said grilled.
Anyway.  I’m not sure why I thought this might be a good idea.  I just did.  It might have something to do with the “I’m a stay at home mom and need to figure out new and inventive ways to keep the kids entertained and happy” part of my job, but maybe it’s just morbid curiosity. Either way, I wanted to know, so I gathered the necessary equipment and ingredients:

and went to work.

The result?

The verdict?
First, wait a minute before taking your first bite.  Hot molten peanut butter does nothing for the tongue and is a lot worse than melted cheese tends to be in the scalding, burning, potentially disfiguring sense.  Once you get past that minor fact though, it really isn’t bad.  I used real butter which caramelized a bit during the cooking so it’s got this crispy, oooey, gooey texture.
Will I make them again?  Probably, the kids liked them, and it was a good alternative to a hot lunch  (and will save on eating Daddy’s cheese…)  Next time though, I’ll probably use crunchy peanut butter…maybe that won’t liquefy and become as much of a potential danger to the kids and me.
There you have it – Grilled PB&J.
